"That was my personal highlight in Tokyo! The cruise was so nice, with the great view of the Tokyo skyline. The food was fantastic, and even better was the live music with shamisen and a traditional singer! The staff were also very friendly and helpful! Thank you so much for this wonderful tour!"

How a Tokyo Dinner Cruise Works
Pick the boat by what it serves, find the pier on your voucher, arrive early, and take your shoes off at the door.
Pick the Boat by What It Serves
The yakatabune cruises differ more by meal and drinks than by route: beef sukiyaki with soft drinks from Etchujima, a 14-dish course with free-flow alcohol from Asakusa, or sashimi and tempura with unlimited drinks from Shinagawa.
Find Your Pier
Your voucher names the pier: Etchujima in Koto ward, Azumabashi across the river from Asakusa Station, or Kitashinagawa near Shinagawa. They are far apart, so check before you set off.
Arrive Early, Shoes Off
Check in about 30 minutes before departure. Inside, the boats are tatami rooms with low tables, so you take your shoes off at the door, and you may share a table with other guests.
Dinner, Then the Roof
The meal is served while the boat crosses the bay. At the Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba it stops or slows, and you climb up to the open roof deck for the view and photos.

The Guide
Which Tokyo Dinner Cruise to Book, and What Each One Gives You
Every boat passes the same Rainbow Bridge. What changes is the meal, the drinks, the length and the pier.
A Tokyo dinner cruise almost always means a yakatabune: a flat, lantern-lit wooden houseboat with a tatami dining room, sailing Tokyo Bay or the Sumida River for 90 minutes to three hours while dinner is served at low tables. The view is close to the same on every boat, the Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba and Tokyo Tower lit up at night, so the real choice is the meal, whether alcohol is included, and how long you want on the water. The cruise this page puts first is Orange Tour’s Yakatabune Dinner Cruise, Odaiba Route: 90 minutes from Etchujima Pier with a beef sukiyaki dinner, unlimited soft drinks and a live shamisen performance. It is from US$75 a person (checked October 2026) and rated 4.7 out of 5 from 1,349 reviews, the most booked dinner cruise in Tokyo on GetYourGuide.

Read what the starting price includes before you book. On the Odaiba route the meal is sukiyaki, thin-sliced beef cooked at the table with vegetables and tofu, and the drinks are soft drinks only: alcohol is not in the fare. The listing also says you may share a table with other guests, you take your shoes off to board, and it is not suitable for children under three, wheelchair users or guests over 80. Guests this October call the food better than they expected and the performers the highlight, and several name their host.
Three kinds of dinner cruise
Sukiyaki and a show, 90 minutes. Orange Tour runs two boats from Etchujima Pier, in Koto ward on the Sumida estuary: the Odaiba route above, and the near-identical Sukiyaki, Show and Tokyo Tower cruise, which adds the option of a Tokyo Tower deck ticket. Both serve beef sukiyaki and soft drinks, both have live shamisen music, and both cross the bay to Odaiba and back. They are the cheapest full dinner on the water and the easiest for first-timers, with a multilingual host on board.
A Japanese course with free-flow drinks, 2.5 to 3 hours. The traditional yakatabune evening is longer and more local: a set course of many small dishes and all-you-can-drink beer, sake, shochu and whisky. Yakatabune Amitatsu’s Sumida River dinner cruise leaves Azumabashi, across the river from Asakusa, with about 14 dishes and free-flow drinks for two and a half hours; the Sumida River dinner cruise page covers it. H.I.S.’s Tokyo Bay yakatabune cruise leaves Shinagawa for up to three hours with sashimi, tempura and unlimited drinks.
The view without dinner. Tokyo Water Taxi’s sunset cruise is one hour on a small boat from Shibaura with a captain and a local guide, under the Rainbow Bridge and close to Odaiba, rated 4.9. It serves no food; you may bring canned drinks and a snack. It is the one to book if the view matters more than the meal.

What a dinner cruise costs, and what is extra
The fares here are per person and include the meal named on each listing. The big difference is alcohol. On Orange Tour’s 90-minute boats, soft drinks are unlimited and alcohol is not included. On the Amitatsu and H.I.S. cruises, beer, sake, shochu, wine and whisky are all-you-can-drink, which is why they cost more and run longer. Tipping is not customary in Japan, so the fare is the whole price unless you add a Tokyo Tower ticket or a hotel pickup. The prices guide sets every boat side by side.
Where the boats leave from
Each cruise boards at one pier, and they are a long way apart. Etchujima Pier is in Koto ward, a short walk from Etchujima Station on the JR Keiyo Line, with Tsukishima and Monzen-Nakacho stations further off. Amitatsu boards at Azumabashi in Sumida ward, across the Sumida River from Asakusa Station. H.I.S. meets in Kitashinagawa, near Shinagawa, and Tokyo Water Taxi leaves Shibaura. Check your voucher for the exact meeting point and the check-in time, usually 30 minutes before departure.

On board: shoes, tables and the roof
A yakatabune is a tatami room on the water, so you take your shoes off at the door; one guest this summer wished the listing had said so before they chose their shoes. Seating is at low tables, sometimes with a sunken well for your legs, and on the shared cruises you may sit with other guests. Partway through, the boat pauses near the Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba and you climb a short ladder to the flat roof for the view and photos. The etiquette guide covers what to wear and what to expect.
When to book
Every cruise on this page shows its own cancellation terms: 24 hours on the Orange Tour and Tokyo Water Taxi boats, 10 days on Amitatsu and 11 days on H.I.S., so book the all-you-can-drink cruises once your dates are fixed. Departure times move with the season and the light; H.I.S. confirms its exact time by email. In spring, Orange Tour runs a separate cherry blossom route on the Sumida River, with dates open from late March 2027; the cherry blossom cruise guide covers it.

The questions people ask before booking a dinner cruise in Tokyo, answered in the first sentence.
For a first evening, Orange Tour's 90-minute Odaiba-route yakatabune, rated 4.7 from 1,349 reviews; if you drink, Amitatsu's Sumida River cruise with free-flow drinks. For the longest evening, the H.I.S. three-hour cruise from Shinagawa. The worth-it guide sorts them by traveller.

The Odaiba-route boat is the cheapest full dinner; Amitatsu and H.I.S. include the drinks. The prices guide lists every boat.
Yes for most visitors: it is dinner in a tatami room with the Rainbow Bridge outside, and the longer cruises include all your drinks. Skip it if low tables are hard for you or you only want the view, in which case the sunset small-boat cruise is cheaper. See is a yakatabune worth it?
A traditional Japanese houseboat with a roofed cabin laid with tatami and low tables, hired for dinner and drinks on the water. In Tokyo they cruise the bay and the Sumida River at night; the Odaiba-route yakatabune is the easiest to book. What is a yakatabune? explains more.
Yes, every evening: the yakatabune dinner cruises sail after dark, and Tokyo Water Taxi runs a one-hour sunset cruise on a small boat under the Rainbow Bridge. The water buses stop early in the evening. The night cruise guide compares them.
Soft drinks yes on every dinner cruise; alcohol only on the longer ones. Orange Tour's 90-minute boats include unlimited soft drinks but not alcohol; Amitatsu and H.I.S. include all-you-can-drink beer, sake, shochu, wine and whisky.
From one pier named on your voucher: Etchujima in Koto ward for Orange Tour, Azumabashi across the river from Asakusa for Amitatsu, and Kitashinagawa for H.I.S. The sunset small boat leaves Shibaura. Check in about 30 minutes before departure.

Smart-casual clothes you can sit on the floor in and shoes you can slip off, because shoes come off at the door of every yakatabune. There is no formal dress code. The etiquette guide covers the rest.
Yes on most, but Orange Tour's boats are not suitable for children under three, and the Japanese courses can be unusual for young eaters. One family on the H.I.S. cruise found the staff especially kind to their five-year-old.
Yes, the shared cruises sail on set dates, and the all-you-can-drink cruises have long cancellation windows. Orange Tour's Odaiba-route boat refunds up to 24 hours before, Amitatsu up to 10 days and H.I.S. up to 11 days.
Yes, Orange Tour runs a 90-minute cherry blossom cruise on the Sumida River in spring, with dates for 2027 open from 24 March. Blooming cannot be guaranteed. The cherry blossom guide explains the timing.
