Cherry Blossom Cruise Tokyo

A cherry blossom cruise on Tokyo's Sumida River: a 90-minute yakatabune with sukiyaki or a tea ceremony, spring 2027 dates open from 24 March, from US$75 (October 2026), and when the trees bloom.

Updated October 2026

Tokyo’s cherry blossom cruise runs on the Sumida River in spring, on a yakatabune that passes the blossom-lined banks while you eat sukiyaki or take part in a tea ceremony.

When the trees bloom

Tokyo’s cherry blossoms open in late March and are at their best for about a week. In 2026 the Japan Meteorological Agency declared the first blossoms on 19 March, at its sample tree at Yasukuni Shrine, and full bloom on 28 March. The 2027 dates depend on the weather over the winter, and the first official forecasts usually appear around the turn of the year. The cruise’s own dates start on 24 March 2027, so if your trip is fixed, book a date in the last days of March or the first days of April and keep the free cancellation as your safety net.

The listing is honest about the risk: blooming cannot be guaranteed. One guest in mid-April 2026 saw few blossoms left but enjoyed the performance and the meal; guests earlier in April describe the river at dusk, the shamisen player, and the tea ceremony.

What the cruise includes

You choose a package when you book: a beef sukiyaki dinner, or a traditional tea ceremony with seasonal Japanese sweets. Both include unlimited soft drinks and a live shamisen performance, and the boat starts and ends at Etchujima Pier on the Sumida estuary. As on all yakatabune, shoes come off at the door and you may share a table.

The rest of the year

Outside the blossom season, the Sumida River evening to book is Yakatabune Amitatsu’s dinner cruise from Asakusa, with about 14 dishes and free-flow drinks; the Sumida River dinner cruise page covers it. In summer, the Sumida River Fireworks fill the river at the end of July (it was on 25 July in 2026), and dinner boats on fireworks nights sell out far ahead.
